What does exercise do for your spiritual body?
I love to run. Mainly trail run though; in the forest on soft trails instead of asphalt. I love to combine exercise and being in nature this way. Besides that, running on the street bores me a lot.
Now we (humans) tend see our physical body apart from our spiritual body, some people just choose to deny the spiritual body all together! Truth is (but most of the readers here know this probably already) both bodies are totally interconnected. Every time when I run I can really feel this too…
When I run, I often don’t just run 20 minutes down the block, I’m in for the long haul ;-) I like to really push myself. Not so much with speed but more with endurance. Like I said I go into the mountains (lots of up- and downhill on rocky trails as well) and forests, because of that it never bores me and I can just keep running and running. Especially when you cross a certain threshold dopamine sets in and I just keep going. Often I run an hour or an hour and half. Or sometimes even longer (but in that case I hike in between)
I push myself to run without stopping and run a lot of hills and rocky trails. After a while running like that I feel a bit like in a trance and that is when I start to feel the healing powers this has on the spiritual body as well…
I feel the rhythm of my steps, the rhythm of my breathing, sweat pouring down my face (especially during this time of year, when temperatures go up to 30C/86F) and when my muscles start to relax, they just keep going… I start to feel a tingling feeling throughout my whole body… and that is the moment I start to feel my chakras opening up! They are glowing and radiating! This is an amazing feeling and makes me want to keep running even more!
It is funny, before I ever exercised like this, I just never thought of this connection between the physical and the spiritual… I mean, I knew it was there because I’ve read it in books or heard it from teachers. But to really feel it, that is such a great feeling… So spiritual! :-)
I recommend it to everybody! But you do have to have discipline, because you will have to push yourself to your limits or just right over them… I do want to give a slight warning to the newbie runners though: start slow. First of all because you don’t want to hurt yourself since you might be untrained, but also because you will give up if you push yourself to hard right away. Start with run/ hike combinations. Run with lots of walking in between, slowly running more every time.
And last but not least: have fun being healthy!
